Curious how a modern stainless steel work of art is created?

Every person is unique and different – that’s why I always make original sculptures, each time unique and different.

A modern sculpture creates a beautiful atmosphere and appearance in your garden, home, office or company. A modern work of art made of stainless steel is and remains a pleasure to the eye. Partly because the stainless steel is virtually maintenance-free and also remains beautiful outside; even after many years it keeps its bright appearance.

But you don’t just make a modern work of art made of stainless steel. In the case of an art assignment, I do my best to “depict” your stories, ideas and wishes in the modern image of RVS. In that case, I will first talk to you. I listen to your wishes and / or ideas. Where the artwork should be placed and what it should express. Together we look at the possibilities in terms of shape, size, material and budget. What best suits your situation as a sculpture or work of art.

After our first meeting I make various sketches, small designs and / or 3D designs for the image to be made.

Sculpting with stainless steel

These modern sculptures are mainly made of stainless steel. The stainless steel can be processed with all kinds of techniques and with which the most complicated designs can be realized. The finish of stainless steel itself can also be done in very different ways with different effects.

Stainless steel is very tough and very strong. It’s a challenge to work with, but the end result is there (if you do it right)!

Types of stainless steel

Stainless steel is available in different types with separate compositions. Certain types of stainless steel are poorly resistant to acid or salt. But stainless steel 316 – a more expensive type – remains beautiful under almost all circumstances. That’s why I only want to use that type. Stainless steel 316 is standard for me.

Modern stainless steel sculptures

THE modern works of art made of stainless steel are welded, cut with water and finished until they shine and reflect like a mirror. That gives a feeling of perfection and exclusivity. A beautiful contrast is created in combination with directionless sanding. Modern stainless steel works of art have diverse designs based on different themes. A modern work of art made of stainless steel can be used both indoors and outdoors and is suitable for private or business purposes. The size of stainless steel works of art varies from small to monumental.

Modern sculpture

Painting always uses only 2 dimensions. A flat surface and some paint are enough to portray ideas and emotions. Morden sculpture works in three dimensions and therefore needs a lot more; Sculpture is much more physical and material.

The materials are heavy and earthy – think of stone and metal – unruly materials in which a lot of energy has to be put into working them, to break their resistance. All sculpture, be it modern sculptures or figurative images, is 3-dimensional. Even wall sculptures are three-dimensional grafted as freestanding works of art in the open space.

Modern sculpture

Modern sculptures sometimes have their origins in figuration. Subjects that are then more and more abstracted – sometimes to the extent that an abstract work of art is created. An abstract work of art can also arise because the sculptor is fascinated by the spatial relationships between different materials, volumes and shapes. Personally, I think that good modern sculpture should evoke wonder and questions. It must be intriguing.

I personally love the work of traditional sculptors and greats such as the American autodicact David Smith, Tony Cragg, Constantin Brancusi, and Henry Moore.

How does an art assignment work?

I make modern contemporary sculptures and statues of stainless steel, glass and weathering steel on behalf of clients. Other materials such as bronze, natural stone and petrified wood can also be used. Every contemporary or modern work of art is unique and unique and is always created in close consultation with the client.

When designing a modern image on commission, I always first get to know you – the possible client. Over a cup of coffee, we discuss your wishes and ideas for a stainless steel sculpture or work of art

Modern sculptures – small examples

If there is a click and we both have the feeling that I am the right person to create an image for you or your organization, then I start making a number of sketches and designs. I do that without obligation. What came up in the first conversation I try to bored with the designs. Usually these are little “frills” made of copperr. Cardboard and wood. Sometimes I also make 3D designs on the computer.

In most cases there are one or two designs that are equally preferred. The final design is often a combination of these favorites.

Design a modern full-size image

Sometimes I then – at the request of the client – make a full-size mockup. This allows us to see whether the modern image has appropriate dimensions and proportions. We also immediately see whether the artwork is outside the desired size. In this mockup we can still make adjustments on the spot. When the mock-up is completely approved, we start the work: the implementation of the design in stainless steel.

Step-by-step realizing artwork

I usually also make the sculpture step by step. In the meantime, I will keep you regularly informed of the progress. You will regularly receive photos of the process. You are of course also welcome to view the progress in the workshop.

I make sure that everything happens as agreed. As a matter of principle, I don’t do stress, rush work and “big steps home quickly”.

Because it must be a beautiful modern sculpture that you should enjoy for years to come. The sculpture is made to remain in place for a long time and must of course also remain beautiful. That is why the artwork must be executed with care and attention. Many customers enjoy this way of working.

When the artwork is ready

You can come and have a look in my studio to admire the sculpture and of course whether everything has been executed according to our agreement. If you are satisfied, you can take the modern sculpture with you immediately. But I can also deliver and post the image to you.

Placing the sculpture

If you prefer that I come and place the modern artwork, we will make an appointment. We agree on the compensation in advance.

A modern work of art – the possibilities

As a visual artist I like to make modern sculptures and works of art from modern materials. I prefer to work with stainless steel, but on request I also use glass, bronze and Corten steel.

Why do I like to work with stainless steel for modern images? Firstly because I like stainless steel, but also because stainless steel is durable, sleek, radiant and strong.

But whatever your wishes go, an original and modern sculpture is always created that can be seen. Distinctive in shape and material.

Nowadays a lot is possible with stainless steel and metal. On this website you will find examples of various options. I create every modern sculpture in-house together with dedicated craftsmen. I have been working with these craftsmen for many years and they are, just like me, driven to create a unique and professionally executed sculpture.
