Stainless steel memorial sculpture commissioned by the families
Exactly three years after a tragic road accident near Borger, the families unveiled this stainless steel memorial sculpture on 30 May 2024. The sculpture stands on the embankment close to the location where five people lost their lives.
Designed together with the families, the sculpture takes the form of an abstract heart. Viewed from one side it clearly resembles a heart, while from another angle it appears as a continuous loop. This changing perspective symbolises the emotional roller coaster experienced by those left behind after such a devastating loss.
Obtaining permission to place a memorial sculpture in a public location alongside a provincial road proved to be a lengthy process. Working closely with the Province of Drenthe, a suitable location overlooking the accident site was eventually selected.
The unveiling took place exactly three years after the accident and received considerable attention from Dutch national and regional media.

A smaller memorial sculpture for home
A smaller version of the memorial sculpture was created especially for the families. Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, it offers relatives a lasting personal reminder of their loved ones.
